Board Meeting Minutes April 6, 2022

MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION FOR WAYNE SCHOOL DISTRICT ON WEDNESDAY APRIL 6TH, 2022 AT 12:00 PM at WAYNE DISTRICT OFFICE.

April Torgerson called the meeting to order. 

BUSINESS ITEMS

Facilities Programming Study

Randy explains meeting with VCBO Architects and reviewing our facility needs. They discussed how buildings are being designed to reduce the footprint of schools using better utilization of space. They knew about our situation and suggested an accelerated timeline due to some other districts planning on bonding this fall and going out to bid early next year. This firm suggested they could get our project going immediately and help us get out to bid before the other districts.

Going through a traditional RFP process would take about 6 weeks. VCBO is on the state contract list, meaning we can utilize their services immediately in an amount up to $100,000 to do a programming study by utilizing the state contract.

The discussion continues about what a program study entails and how the architects would come visit and meet with various stakeholders. The product would be a rough design that would accelerate our project with the intent to be ready by later in the year to approach the state committee and go out to bid.

The full cost of architectural design is typically between 6-7% of the total project cost. Dave explains that FFE can add up to almost 10% of the total project as well, depending on how much is preserved.

Board members discuss current utilization and needs as well as how the construction phases would proceed.

Curtis makes a motion to approve a program study up to $100,000. Cory seconds. All in favor.
