HES Attendance Policy

Hanksville Elementary Attendance Policy

Attendance:

Utah State Law requires parents and/or guardians to ensure that their child attends school every day. Research has proven that students who miss much more than ten days of school each year begin to show signs of academic problems. We cannot teach students who are not in attendance.

Excessive Absences

Students are expected to be in school every day. Excessive absences are considered to be a student missing more than ten days per year.

If students miss ten consecutive days with no notice, they will be dropped from our roles.

As per Utah Code:

Utah Code 53A-11-101 through 53A-11-105 states that a student should not be truant more than 5 days in a school year. Students with 10 or more truancies are federally classified as “habitually truant”. Parents/Guardians with habitually truant students are subject to a DCFS referral and possible criminal prosecution. Ten (10) consecutive truancies may result in unenrollment from the School.

Utah code Ann - 53A-11-101.5 authorizes the building administrator to issue a notice of compulsory education violation to a parent or guardian for a student who is a least six (6) years old but under the age of fifteen (15), if the student is absent without a valid excuse at least five (5) times during the school year.
