Chess Tournament Champions

12 January, 2020

During the Autumn season of 2020, Eric Lafaele hosted a chess tournament. There were participants from all grades, and they all played against each other for the top spot. Included in the participants was Mr. Lafaele himself. Due to the chess games being held during the Study Skills class period, matches took a long time and the tournament moved slowly. However, on January 7th of the new year the final match between Blake Giles and Eric Lafaele was held. Eric Lafaele won the 1st place pedestal; Blake Giles took the 2nd pedestal. The 3rd and 4th places have still not been decided in the loser’s bracket. Congratulations to Mr. Lafaele and Blake!

Christmas Door Designs

On November 24 before the students and teachers got out for Thanksgiving break, the students decorated each classroom door with a fun Christmas design! All doors had a different design and phrase that made them all interesting and unique. We wanted to come back after Thanksgiving to jump into the Christmas spirit! It’s fascinating to walk down the halls every day to see these fantastic designs!

B-3 Physics Hot Air Balloons

December 1, 2020

Before the daylight broke through the horizon, the Physics B-1 Class set out to fly their hot air balloons. Three days of cutting, gluing, taping, and patching went into each individual hot air balloon. The air was cold and fresh; the perfect environment to fly the hot air balloons. The first few struggled to lift off as the air struggled to heat up from the night cold. It was around the end that the hot air finally lifted the balloon off the ground. They travelled over the fence and into the baseball field. Of the nine balloons three ended up on the roof. Only two returned to the surface.

Valley Basketball Tournament

On December 11th and 12th the basketball girls headed down to Valley for the Valley Tournament. On the first day, the JV team first played Grand. It was a good game and Wayne came out with the win. This put the JV in the championship. The Varsity team played Parowan for their first game. It was a close game and Wayne pulled ahead in the fourth quarter and they won. This put both teams in the championship for the second day. On the second team the JV team played Valley for first and second place. It was a really close game in the fourth quarter and Wayne ended up winning the championship! The Varsity played later that day for first and second against Kanab. Wayne was ahead the first three quarters, but then Kanab came back in the forth and Wayne ended up losing. Overall JV took first and Varsity took second in the tournament!
