Last year was an exciting year for Wayne School District. As we receive our end of year scores we are pleased at the amazing things our schools are doing with our kids.

The first outstanding number we received was for our elementary school readers. Each year our 3rd grade students take the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) test. DIBELS measures the acquisition of early literacy skills. DIBELS are comprised of seven measures to function as indicators of phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle, accuracy and fluency with connected text, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. This year our elementary DIBLES score was 96.88% This indicates that 96.88% of our kids met or exceeded the states 3rd grade growth goal. This score was the 2nd highest among all of the state’s school districts and higher then all of the state charter schools. This is outstanding and a well-deserved thanks to our great elementary principal and teachers.

Each year the high school 11th grades take the ACT test. The ACT test measures academic college readiness and is the one of the main scores that schools use for college acceptance and scholarships. One of Wayne High School’s main goals last year was to increase their ACT scores. They added an ACT Prep class that 10th and 11th graders take. In addition, the content teachers also spent time each week reviewing ACT material. This hard work and dedication paid off by receiving a composite score of 20.5, which is an increase of 1.6 points from last year’s scores. It is also almost a full point over the state average. Big kudos to the staff at the high school for their dedication to student achievement.
