July 25, 2024 — Additional Meeting — Board Meeting Minutes
School Board Meeting
July 25, 2024
Attendance: April Torgerson, Curtis Whipple, Shawn Davis, Liz Torgerson, Jim Lamb, Randy Shelley, Cory Anderson
I. 6:00 District Assist Program-
- Previously called the Benevolence Program. Cory presented that this would be something that full-time employees with hours that they will be losing can donate to for full-time employees to use in the future, if we decide to approve it. Person would have to fill out an application that a committee reviews and approves the use of funds. Board would like to look into this. Policy will need to be written and employees be aware that hours will go to the account, not individuals directly. Employees that donate will need to come in and donate the hours. It doesn’t just roll over to the account. We will need to look into how we can offer classified employees this benefit. Board would like to do a dollar amount instead of “number of days”. Board would like to run this through the Attorney and get his recommendations.
- Buying back PTO hours- Not a lot of employees are affected by this, mainly the 12 Month Classified Employees. Options could be to pay out up to 30 days at retirement or when a person leaves. Board would like to look into policies that other districts use as a reference and see what kind of options we have as we write a new policy.
- Budget Adjustments for accounts that have negative balance. This was a continuation of the topic from the last Board Meeting. Committee met and discussed negative accounts previously. Some ideas from that meeting were to have the surplus sale and have the organizations come and help with the surplus sale. Pay to play needs to be reviewed by program. Accounts need to be reviewed with the coaches before and after the season to know where their account sits. Possibly meeting with the coaches in the summer to make sure they have enough funds to cover the season for the next year. One coach’s meeting for all sports might be helpful. Company banner program will be handled differently going forward to help with funding programs. Fees paid before tryouts instead of end of the year. Facilities are not great this year for concessions. Discussion about helping programs with funding where gate is not possible.
- Surplus Sale will be Aug 7-9th. Public will need to come and remove the items that they want and programs could get the revenue for that. Idea was presented to have some items that don’t sell at the park for the Saturday of the fair. We will get with Nikki since David is gone and contact the coaches of the need assistance.
- Survey results on extra make up days for High School- Sent to Staff with 22 responses. Then it was sent to parents of the 7th-12th graders with 91 responses. Options were online, in person, hybrid options. Superintendent presented a calendar that the board needs to approve with the new high school start date and proposed make-up days. Make up days for absences will need to be worked out with the teacher if a student is not going to be there.
