Bus Training (and reimbursement) Policy

Wayne School District will pay a trainee the minimum hourly District Bus driver rate for time spent in Bus Driver Training.  Attendees will be paid for the total number of hours required to complete the training.

If a trainee chooses to have the District pay for their training, there must be a time commitment of service to the district for a minimum of one year following the training.

The District will commit payment for training based on the following payment schedule:

  1. First Payment after one-half of the training is complete
  2. Second Payment after the certificate has been obtained, and 1 year of service completed.

The year of service must be served as a willing and available substitute, or on a full time bus driver status, and begins when the trainee has completed all requirements.

Training and certificate must be completed within 1 year from the date the trainee begins the course.

If a person does not complete the training, he/she will be required to reimburse the district for any amount previously paid.

Trainees will be required to pay their own fees to obtain the appropriate credentials to finalize their license.

  1. Driver’s test
  2. CDL license.

Certified permanent and substitute bus drivers—

The District will pay the cost for renewal of credentials for all active, certified bus drivers as follows:

  1. Forty (40) hours recertification training (every 5 years)
  2. Eight (8) hours yearly in-service training

DOT Physical—

The District will reimburse all certified bus drivers and trainees for normal costs incurred for the DOT physical, after any payments are made by the driver’s own insurance.
