“This country will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.” ~Elmer

On Friday, November 10, 2017 Hanksville Elementary staff and students were thoughtful of veterans as they learned from guest speakers Susie Hatch and Supt. Fahey.

Stories from a real live veteran, Supt. Fahey enthralled students.  We want students to understand and honor veterans who have served our great country.  It is not easy, it is a sacrifice, it is an honor to protect freedom.

Susie and Kevin Hatch were also guests.  Susie brought a book she found in her father’s collection, who had been a military teacher to the soldiers.  During WWII, women become involved in the military serving many ways, including air force.Macintosh HD:Users:cwilkins:Downloads:IMG_0203.JPG

After listening to the guest speakers, students walked around town to the veteran memorials.  Near the old church is a monument in honor of WWII vets who served from the Hanksville Ward erected by the youth of the church.   Near the post office is a memorial in honor of Patrick Pentico, Kevin and Susie Hatch’s son, who died serving in Afghanistan.
