Honoring Veteran's Day
“This country will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.” ~Elmer
On Friday, November 10, 2017 Hanksville Elementary staff and students were thoughtful of veterans as they learned from guest speakers Susie Hatch and Supt. Fahey.
Stories from a real live veteran, Supt. Fahey enthralled students. We want students to understand and honor veterans who have served our great country. It is not easy, it is a sacrifice, it is an honor to protect freedom.
Susie and Kevin Hatch were also guests. Susie brought a book she found in her father’s collection, who had been a military teacher to the soldiers. During WWII, women become involved in the military serving many ways, including air force.
After listening to the guest speakers, students walked around town to the veteran memorials. Near the old church is a monument in honor of WWII vets who served from the Hanksville Ward erected by the youth of the church. Near the post office is a memorial in honor of Patrick Pentico, Kevin and Susie Hatch’s son, who died serving in Afghanistan.
