Rolling Up the Mat

Over the weekend the Badgers took to the fights at the SVC.  With the new 6A classification has changed where all the schools are now classified Wayne has lost good competition in the state title fight.  Altamont and Duchese have both been moved to the 2A classification leaving Monticello the lone powerhouse of the state.  Wayne competed well but could not overcome the power of the Buckaroos.  They fell flat and came in a close third behind Panguitch.

In the medal rounds Wayne came away with a good portion of the team sporting hardware.  In 106 Jesse Peterson walked away with a third place medal with this being his first year we are excited to see what the future holds for him.  In 126 we had both Wade Jeffery and Braydon Lawton snag medals.  Braydon Lawton came in 4th after a long road back from a shoulder injury early in the season.  Wade Jeffery came in 2nd falling to a Buckaroo.  Wade still has a few years left and wish him luck in claiming a title.  In 132 Mason Wells grabbed the 3rd place slot.  With one more year to look forward to we hope Mason can improve his standing.  At 160 Luke Dahl made a impressive come back after coming back from shoulder surgery in the summer that prevented him from playing football.  In his last year he calmed the silver in state.  Jacob Oldroyd, Wayne’s 182,  claimed the bronze and with one year left we hope he can climb the ranks and secure the gold.  The true surprise of the season came from the 285.  Daniel Ayala in his first year of wrestling claimed a region title, but sadly fell short in the state finals.  Even though he took second coaches have high hopes for him as he still has many years in front of him to claim that title.  Wayne’s lone title was won in an exciting closely fought grudge match between the Buckaroos and the Badgers.  Barlow Pace fought hard to gain an advantage and all the hard work paid off.  That is not the highlight of this story not only did Barlow take state, but he also was named the Upper Weight Outstanding 1A Wrestler.  He also was awarded Academic All-state for his ability to excel in the classroom as well as on mat. FB IMG 1518328334172FB IMG 1518328354091
